It’s that time of year again… DENIM MONTH! Arguably, there is nothing in one’s closet more versatile then a pair of good fitting jeans. Sure we can save them for the weekend, but why would we? With a few essential tips to follow, a pair of jeans can take you from the office to after-work-cocktails in most instances. Let’s take a look at office denim decorum, shall we….
DARK IS BEST
Keep the faded, ripped and dare I say acid wash for the weekend! Generally speaking, darker rinses will look and feel much more polished. A straight cut, and even a modest boot cut will elongate and keep your entire look, pulled together.
DISTRESSED STAYS HOME
This goes along with the above-mentioned, “weekend rule”. I am all for a strategically placed rip or fray but again, not for the office. There should be no peek-a-boo flesh of any kind.
NO BOYFRIEND CUTS
Very few people work for JCrew. I get it, wearing a loose pair of pants, that boarder on wearing sweatpants, is oh so comfy, but this is not appropriate office attire, so you guessed it… save it for the weekend.
NO CAMEL TOE
Yes, I AM going there! On the opposite end of boyfriend is skinny. Skinny jeans are not a bad option at all, but be sure that THEY FIT. And for heaven’s sake, where a longer top, or jacket. No boss wants to see your goodies, and if they do, you need to pay a visit to HR — #JustSayin’.
THE HALF RULE
If you do decide to don a pair of jeans to the office, then everything else you wear needs be “dressier”. Think… a flowy blouse, button down, jacket or really anything on top you would wear as part of normal work outfit.
NO SNEAKERS
Yes I know, “But these are not really sneakers, Alyssa , these are Fashion Sport Shoes.” Regardless of whatever hipster name you would like to label them with, you are in an office, not a gym or even out on a stroll. There are plenty of chic, comfy flats and heels out there, at every price point, for the office.
