It’s officially spring here in Chicago, and I’m busy filling my clients’ closets with fabulous spring essentials! I’m choosing items that can be worn now with an extra layer or two and that can stand on their own when the weather truly heats up. These are just a few of the spring essentials that I have my eye on this season!
Outerwear – Specifically, Trench Coats
Chicago springs are usually too chilly to go without an extra layer, even when we are ready to shed our coats. Make the transition less painful with outwear in bold colors and playful prints. This year, trench coats are popping up in leather and faux leather for a twist on the classic spring staple. Trench Coats rule the spring essentials outerwear game, but bomber jackets, leather moto jackets, and even thick blazers are also great options.
Lightweight Sweaters
Put away your chunky knits and bulky turtlenecks, but don’t overlook lightweight sweaters as a spring staple! Choose a cashmere sweater in a pretty pastel, a bright neon shade – or a quirky print. Wear it on its own with some cropped trousers or a midi skirt, or pop it with a collared shirt in a contrasting print until it gets warmer.
Florals (of course!)
Florals are always in for spring (groundbreaking!) – but this year, it’s all about the Ditsy Print. A ditsy print is a small-scale, all-over floral pattern. It’s a sweet print that is perfect for tops, skirts, dresses – and even swimsuits.
Statement Denim
Denim never goes out of style, but this season’s styles are all about making a statement! Cropped, flared, two-toned, high-waisted, striped, printed or colored…there’s something for everyone. For the fun and fashionably adventurous, try a denim jumpsuit or a pair of overalls! The only rule is to choose unique denim that can’t be ignored!
Spring Trends to Try
Here are two trends that are springing up everywhere this year. Take note, but proceed with caution!
Tie-dye
I never thought I’d see the day, but it’s official: tie-dye has made a comeback! But (thankfully) We are not talking the old Woodstock tie-dye – think more Etsy-explosion tie-dye treatments to your wardrobe favorites! Everything from t-shirts to silk dresses and denim have gotten the tie-dye treatment this season. I don’t know how long this trend will stick around, but it can be a fun spring/summer wildcard item in your closet!
Anything Yellow
Yellow is the cheeriest color taking over the runways and red carpets this spring. Perhaps it reminds us of daffodils and the first flowers of Spring… but whatever the reason, it’s IN in a big way. If this bright hue is too much for you, start with a cute pair of yellow shoes. These hunter boots are a classic and are a fun way to add color to your wardrobe.
